Manufacturing Controls Engineer

Job Title: Systems Engineer or Manufacturing Controls Engineer-OR
Department: Engineering/Maintenance
Reports To: Bert Pires
FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is to provide for the conceptualization, development, design, evaluation, recommendation, and upon approval, execution of engineering programs that will contribute to the Manufacturing objectives. This requires that activities be self-initiated and self-directed, as well as responsive to needs as defined. The primary goal is to complete projects on time within budget.
In addition, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for programming and configuring PLC’s, tuning control loops, developing detailed software design descriptions, and troubleshooting existing control systems throughout the manufacturing facility.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. At times, may be required to supervise the daily activities of other employees working on projects they are managing. At times will also be responsible for supervising/managing outside contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Controls, or Systems Engineering, with at least 5 years of related experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 15 years experience in lieu of a degree will be considered

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
  • Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
