The Healthiest New Soups

Soup's reputation as a dietfriendly food isn't entirely deserved: Some versions are loaded with fat and salt. A cup of cream of onion, for example, contains 9 grams of fat and more than 1,000 milligrams of sodium-that's over a third of what you should get all day. Instead choose soups without cream or butter, and with fewer than 600 milligrams of sodium per serving, advises Molly Kimball, R.D., a nutritionist at Ochsner Health Systems' Elmwood Fitness Center in New Orleans. Here, five tasty gooci-for-you picks.

From someone who spent three years living in Italy and despises "Italian food" in America, this soup left me gape-mouthed. From the first spoonful I felt as though I could've been in a family run restaurant in Florence where I lived. I gaff at those in Michigan who offer to take me to an Italian restaurant here...nothing ever compares, let alone finding a canned soup that takes me back to the motherland. Seriously. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Now if only I can resist the temptation to pass it off as homemade to my family and friends...Saluti!
